1. Information We Collect
Youth in Diaspora collects the following personal information when you create an account: your name, email address, date of birth, country of origin, current city, bio, profile photo, and interests. We also collect optional information such as your profession, university, languages spoken, and LinkedIn URL.
We do not store your exact location. We store only city-level and neighbourhood-level centroids (approximate geographic center points) to help you discover community members near you.
2. How We Use Your Information
Your information is used to create your profile, match you with community members in your city, assign you to a local hub, and facilitate connections and messaging within the platform.
3. Phone Number Privacy
Your phone number is used solely for identity verification. After verification, we store only a cryptographic hash of your phone number — not the number itself. Your raw phone number is discarded immediately after verification.
4. Data Storage & Security
Your data is stored on Supabase servers in the ca-central-1 (Canada) AWS region. All data is encrypted in transit and at rest. We implement row-level security on all database tables and follow security best practices throughout our infrastructure.
5. Your Rights (PIPEDA)
Under Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), you have the right to access and download your personal data, and the right to request deletion of your account and all associated data. You can exercise these rights from your Settings page at any time.
6. Analytics
We use PostHog for anonymised analytics. No personally identifiable information is sent to our analytics provider. IP anonymisation is enabled. Analytics are only activated after you provide consent via the cookie banner.
7. Do Not Sell My Data
Youth in Diaspora does not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes. Your data is used exclusively to power the Youth in Diaspora platform.
